Blanching for freezing veggies?

Hi, does anybody know about blanching vegetables? My broccoli and cauliflower plants decided to all come ripe at the same time and we won't be able to eat it fast enough, so I'd like to freeze some. I know that it needs to be blanched first. I've looked around the internet and found instructions for both boiling and steaming methods...I prefer steaming if both work equally well, do you know about this? I thought of steaming in the microwave but suspect that the cooking is too uneven? The other part of my question is about how thoroughly cooked the food is supposed to be, the times I've found sound like the food will be well cooked. Is it supposed to be tender-crisp or more or less cooked than that? I intend to pick the veggies shortly before blanching and I think that very fresh veggies cook more quickly than older veggies...typically I will harvest a head a couple of hours before dinner, a large head's worth of florets micro-steam in about 4 minutes.

Advice and suggestion appreciated!

Right now in Nebraska I think we would just eat it....lol.....would love something fresh.....lol

I garden a lot and I freeze plenty
Maybe this is a little helpful
What I do is I pick early and do it up early
I would cut it into what I want * and then place it in
hot water for just a few minutes * not over cooked
then I will drain and chill as fast as I can then I would bag
it into my baggies and place into freezer.. I own 3 freezers
so when I am doing it I would only do a few bags at a time
so I dont over work the freezers.
I wouldnt advise micro wave at all..
It really depends on how people like it cooked on the thorough
you want it to be. Some like soft some like not so tough
* I prefer a bit less due to the nutrition it has in less cooked
You are correct pick then do them up..
Clean them up and then process them ..

Now this is only my 2 cents on this ..

YEP, I live in Mississippi, we also garden year round, but it goes from cold to hot too fast for broccoli, cauliflower, and head lettuce, so we don't get much when we plant them.

Thanks for the advice, its just in time. I really need to deal with this today before the veggies are past peak. I'm in San Diego. We can grow food year round here, which also means the weeds grow year round here!
