Burnt Cookies - Help!

I cannot make cookies in my oven. By the time the tops are cooked, the bottoms are burnt. Always, no matter what. How can I fix this?
Do you have an oven thermometer? It's the best $4 you'll ever spend. Make sure your oven thermostat is working. But my guess is that it's not your oven. What type of pan are you using? You need a heavy sheet pan with a shiny or light colored surface. A thin or dark surfaced pan will burn the bottom of the cookies. It may also help to line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
Also be sure your oven is clean. A dirty oven does not cook evenly. Be sure the racks are in the top half of the oven for cookies, and if you are cooking more than one pan, most bakers recommed that you swap the racks halfway through.
Did that help any?
Okay, so I probably need to clean my oven and buy a new cookie sheet. What do you mean by heavy? Any recommendations? My cookie sheets are old and dark, and I usually cover them in tin foil. I guess that's not a good thing. Also, I have the oven rack in the middle - should it be higher than that?
By heavy I mean thick. There is a reason why chefs use stainless steel and raw aluminum and uncoated cooking equipment. I like cooking in cast iron, but I don't bake cookies with it. Dark pans make bad cookies. Real sheet pans will cost you a little but they will do
a lifetime of work (therefore become free) and will save you tons in trashed food.
I use the parchment paper on mine * I to have older pans and I bake on one shelf then finish them up on another shelf in my oven... I have notice at times the weather will interfer with my baking.. Kroni has offered a lot of stuff..
