Crock pot v. Stove?

Dh took both crock pots to school with him this morning for a cultural night that his kids are doing this evening. Do you think I could use my cast iron pot on the stove on low instead of a crock pot? I'm making a lentil soup that I usually let sit in the crock pot all day. I thought maybe putting it on the stove for a few hours would work. Is "low" on the stove similar to "low" on the crock pot?

Thanks! :)

I think cooking with cast iron is great but lentils are something that taste and cooks better in slow mode..
Let me or us know how it turned out with the cast iron..

No, he teaches elementary school. The kids have been studying various countries, so tonight each classroom teacher has prepared food from that country. They invite the parents, eat and the kids show their work.

I'll let you know how the soup turns out. I had already started it when I saw this.

Okay, well the taste was good, but the look - yikes. The whole pot of soup turned black.

Well, live and learn I suppose. I almost threw the leftovers out this morning because it looks more the color black bean soup. I tasted it again and it tastes fine. I'll just close my eyes when I eat it. ;)
