How about a clue as to what you are looking for?
I looked at this thread out of curiousity as to what a friendship cake is and now I am even more curious.
I've never heard of it before but doing a search came across this: http://m.allrecipes.com/recipe/7900/thirty-day-friendship-cake Sounds interesting! Is that what you're talking about!
If I'm not mistaken it is not the cake itself, but a starter. It's called a frienship starter that you can keep going much like sourdough starter. You use it to make cakes and then add a bit to it when you use it and you can also give some starter to friends and family.
There are 2 versions of cake that I know of, plus the 2 SEPERATE starters. The 30 day starter, and subsequent cake, ferments fruit into alcohol. The 10 day starter, and subsequent tea bread/coffee cake, ferments milk, sugar and flour into a sourdough-type starter. You can start this with a cake of yeast, or leave the initial mix uncovered for a few hours to capture wild yeast. All are on line. Google what you want. BTW, the 10 day starter recipe is also called Amish Friendship Bread, AND Herman the German.
I am so sorry...I don't know what happened to the body of my request, but kudos to the ones of you who knew what I was looking for. Yes, it IS a starter...you create the yeast base, with fruits etc...then once it starts to ferment, you share a portion of it with friends, who add their own fruit, and then share the working 'starter' with their friends too.
Thanks very much to everyone who offered an idea on how to find the recipe..!! If I find it, and once I try it and know it's good, I'll share on line too
We used to have a ton of info on this here but I can't find it now. Let's start over with the recipes!
