I am using my 2qt slow cooker today..... I did brown my meat a bit, but if I would have put in as much as the recipe says I am afraid it would have run over. It is packed to the lid now......can't wait..

Next I am going to try chicken....

It's beef stew week on Cooking 101! :-) Hope it turns out delicious. I like the idea of browning the meat first. I didn't think of that but will try it next time.

I've started browning beef roasts before I put them in my Crock Pot, and it seems to make them more tender and adds a bit of flavor.

I've been hungry for beef stew, maybe right afte Thanksgiving for a break from the turkey. My mom always put a lot of burgundy in her stew, a bit much I think. She really liked to cook with wine, almost as much as she liked drinking it...lol.

I started using vermouth after I heard that it didn't turn like wine. I was out the other day & opened a bottle of DH Shiraz. I've always heard "don't cook with a wine you wouldn't drink"...I don't drink wine, but I love to cook with it, so DH has to help me out there. I do need to replenish my stock of vermouth & sherry, too.

My mom made chicken courdon bleu with muchrooms and white wine. I wish I had the recipe, but I've never tried it. I really should, DH loved it.

OMG, I do love vermouth, and it DOES keep well.
