Homemade hashbrowns, which method is better?

So I've been google-ing a little and found 2 ways to make homemade hashbrowns. 1) Parboil the whole potato, peel, grate/shred then cook or 2) Peel, grate/shred, rinse, pat dry on paper towel, cook. Everything I've found has gone back and forth as to which way works better. I imagine that there is some difference in texture or cook times or something, but I haven't found anything to sway me to try one way over the other. Any ideas for the pregnant one craving pancakes, scrambled eggs and hashbrowns for dinner (or breakfast)?
