I think in the past week I've heard a hundred different versions of how to boil an egg. I didn't know there could be that many different opinions.

Here's what iVillage has to say...

Cooking 101: How to Make Hard-Boiled Eggs

Whether you're making hard-boiled eggs for Easter or as a snack, follow our easy instructions and you’ll be an expert in no time

In the book I'm reading (An Everlasting Meal: Cooking With Economy and Grace) the author brings her eggs to the brink of boil and, as soon as she sees the first bubbles, she turns the water off, lets them sit for 4 minutes, then plunges the eggs into ice.

I was taught to bring them to a boil and let them boil for about 5 minutes.

But don't follow their cooking instructions, you can see they made green eggs!

I like that idea, I've seen it before and wondered how it was done. I might try that this year. I remember my mom always cracking the shells a bit just before dying them to get color on the eggs. We always had "Egg Gravy" for breakfast easter morning. Just white sauce with cut up hard boiled eggs, served over buttered toast. I still serve it on easter morning every year, with my mom's Easter Egg Gravy, making sure to get some of the color in there!

Hi and Welcome..
I myself have found that one shouldn't over boil the eggs or they will turn
green in the yolk part..
I also peel them quickly after they are boiled ..
