How do YOU boil an egg?

I think in the past week I've heard a hundred different versions of how to boil an egg. I didn't know there could be that many different opinions.
Here's what iVillage has to say...
Cooking 101: How to Make Hard-Boiled EggsWhether you're making hard-boiled eggs for Easter or as a snack, follow our easy instructions and you’ll be an expert in no time

In the book I'm reading (An Everlasting Meal: Cooking With Economy and Grace) the author brings her eggs to the brink of boil and, as soon as she sees the first bubbles, she turns the water off, lets them sit for 4 minutes, then plunges the eggs into ice.
I was taught to bring them to a boil and let them boil for about 5 minutes.

Those are so cool! Boy I really need to get more creative this year!
I saw this cute version of deviled eggs on Facebook this morning...
I guess we're in good shape then - DH came home with a giant box of 2.5 dozen eggs over the weekend, so they should be not-so-fresh by next weekend when we dye them. I'll try taking them out of the fridge in advance. Thanks for the tip!
I do not plunge them in any water when I am letting them sit..
I also try to have older eggs when I need to peel them..
Eggs in this house don't sit for long...
I have tried so many ways and have been unsuccesful everytime! I will try the tips iVillage provided...I am determined to be able say that I can boil an egg :smileyhappy:
