Koolickle question...

Okay, I asked Demario if he likes pickles & yes, he does. He was intrigued, but not enthusiastic about Koolickles. I am going to make some for him & I'm sure I'll get to try one. The question is about the Kool-aid...I'm assuming the unsweetened type, right? What about flavor? Does it matter? Is one more commonly used, or what? I will probably get the stuff Wednesday & make them over the weekend.

Boy does that bring back memories. I have no idea how to make them, but we used to get them at the fair every year as kids. It's been years since I've thought about them. Fun!

I just don't think I could bring myself to try one. Okay, maybe one bite but....it just sounds awful. I'm sorry! I'm not one to mix sweet and savory (hate nuts in chocolate) and I hold kosher dill pickles sacred, so I just can't imagine combining the two.

Here's a recipe Karen posted awhile back...

I was thinking something red. Both of the recipes Kellie pulled up said cherry...do that get a Kool Aid flavor, or just color & sweetness from the sugar?

Koolickles came up as DH and I were discussing purple cauliflower last night at dinner. At first he said "WHAT? I love pickles. I love Kool-Aid." then the more he thought about it he started asking about flavoring and scrunching up his nose. I told him you suggested black cherry, which is his fave. I'm definitely going to have to give this a try, just out of curiosity now.

That's what I'm curios about, the flavor...how much Kool-Aid flavor they have, as opposed to just sweet & sour. I am not a big Kool-Aid fan, but if I drink it, I like something red, or occasionally lime. Lime Kool-Aid might actually be fun because it would be a totally weird color, but the flavor would be different, hmmm, something to consider for April Fool's, maybe?

Definitely April Fools!! I was thinking that with the purple cauliflower last night. I was thinking about pureeing it with mashed potatoes and using it as a fake "icing" on a meatloaf cake or something like that. I posted in Parties & Entertaining about an April Fool's Day menu. I'm seriously considering it now!

You get a little fruity flavor, it's not objectionable at all.

Here is a recipe I found, it looks easy and is Semi-Homade
