Despite the very best planning we've all run into a Thanksgiving disaster in our time -- the year you "accidentally" poisoned your mother-in-law with undercooked stuffing, the time you didn't completely thaw the turkey and it took 8 hours to cook.

This really wasn't me but in December of 06 is when my #1 DD was going to have our family "thing"....lol , Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter....

It was like the 29th of the month. She lived in the country. She called in the morning and said she had the turkey in the oven. So a couple hours later the weather was looking rainy and it was dark out. But the prediction was for some rain but nothing we can't handle. So we drove the 30 some miles to her house. Almost the whole family made it but when we got there she said that the electricity had been off for about 20 minutes but should be back on soon and the turkey was only just hot not anywhere near cooked....since my DH is a fireman he had his portable radio so we listened to NOAA. Oh, My,,,,, now they are predicting a lot of rain and ice and whatever... we looked outside and sure enough that is what it was doing.... She had nothing that ran on gas so we took the food out to the grill. We got most of it done enough so we could at least have a bite and then we all took off for home...

We had ice that was inches thick and it was nasty for days. She was without lights for 12 days.. She called and said that she did get that darn turkey cooked she cut it up and cooked it in a pan on the grill.....and it was very good....which was good because she had to eat it for a couple days.....lol.....That was an awful storm.....

She called me the next summer and said that she was sorry for ever saying anything that hurt my feelings about having Christmas for my side of the family in the summer...(my dad was very happy when we started doing that since he didn't have to go out in the cold...lol) So now when there is talk of a family thing

My "disaster" happened a few years ago. We were hosting about 15 for dinner so the turkey was 20 pounds or more.

Oh, poor girl! We live in a remote area too, so I definitely know that trepidation about the weather. We always wonder if people will be able to make it out here.

I have never had a big disaster at Thanksgiving, I've only been making it myself for the past couple of years.

OH, GOSH, that happened to me once! That's how I learned to replace an oven element!

One Thanksgiving, my gravy came out so lumpy that my mother-in-law called it "tapioca." :( I will never live it down.
