What's your doughnut?

Today someone brought 3 dozen assorted donuts to the office.  So the topic is, which one do you choose?  My favorite, the chocolate dipped one, was not available without sprinkles (GRRRR).  The plant engineer noticed that the caramel dipped ones had more aroma than the others.  My co-worker in the next office only likes the cake donuts, which I don't like at ALL.

But now I've had too many donuts to worry about having lunch.  What's your favorite?

I am a filled doughnut.   I like jelly or cream filled.   But it has to be a red jelly, no lemon filled- yuck.   And I can't be custard filled- yuck.

Those are the only kinds I have zero willpower over.   I can say no to the others all day long.

I do like the cake ones though, and would take one of those over a regular one every time.

I like the cake one, I made them after an American recipe I got and realised they are the same as  Lardrings ( yeah the name sucks) we have at christmas. I like chocolate dipped doughnuts too and also  deep fried Swedes, yeap a Finnish typ of jam filled dough nut  but what I love is hot doughnuts  dipped in cinnamon sugar and served with chocolate dipping sauce!!

After my first child was born, I used to get up REALLY early on Sunday mornings and make mashed potato donuts.  My husband was in hotel management, and all of the male staff at his hotel was single.  They all knew I started frying the donuts at 10:30 a.m.  My house was a VERY BUSY place on Sunday mornings!  I shaped them in various ways, glazed them in various ways, stuffed some...it was a lot of fun for us!

I got my start with a recipe in the Plaid cookbook.  But here's a pretty good pictorial!  http://www.cookiemadness.net/2011/04/raised-potato-doughnuts/

Oh Geesh.  I love them all.  Everytime I drive the 50 some miles to the big city of Anchorage I get some donuts in Wasilla before I head out.  I like maple glazed donuts.  filled or not it doesn't matter.  Donuts are like potato chips.....I can't eat just one.
