I'll probably come up with more but to start with... How long does it take to plan out your shopping trips? I know Publix comes out with their new weekly ads on Tuesday where the rest them seem to do it on Sundays. How do you plan your shopping trips? How many stores do you hit during a week? Do you feel like you give up things to do this? (I'm thinking of how I like Jif PB and Heinz ketchup best - would you buy Peter Pan PB or Hunts if that's where the deals are?)

Thanks!

So my initial 'planning' actually doesn't take too long and I'm a night owl, so I'm able to do the planning after I've spent quality time with the fam and they're all snoring and I love the time alone :) Maybe I give up reading my novels because of it, but I am able to catch up on this at the gym during the day, so no biggie.

So it really doesn't take me too long, I actually keep post-its for each store and I write down the deals that I'd like to do for each store along with what Qs I have to pull out, which I need to print (from store websites) and then I just figure out what rewards I have and how best to use them. I use circulars, online sites, Facebook, rely on word of mouth and just a general knowledge of what is going to be coming around on sale again in the 'cycle'.

At this point I feel like I am actually just doing the slow 'replenish' because I've built the decent stockpile. I look for deals on things I need and then if a stock up price happens on something we are running low on, I'll grab it. I've got enough of a lot of stuff to last awhile where we'd only need to buy produce, dairy, eggs, etc so I concentrate on the things that I can get $ back for, store rewards for free or recycle the rewards I have into new rewards.

I will sometimes try new brands, but I am a creature of habit. I am not loyal to certain things (which is how I have enough shower gel to last QUITE awhile) but there are some things I'm just a stickler for like ALL free and clear detergent because my kids have sensitive skin.

If you are willing to try a new brand (or have someone to give it to if you decide you don't like it) then go for it if it's a great deal! Worse than paying full retail for an item you like is paying any money for an item you won't use. :)

For me I think I've got a good system down. I only shop twice a week. (Wednesdays at my grocery stores, and sundays at my drugstores.) Everyday I print any new coupons that might have come out and on sundays I clip and file all of my coupons for the week. In the beginning I relied on coupon blogs alot to get my coupon matchups together, but now I've got it down to a science and know how to matchup deals on my own. In the beginning it does take a bit more time getting your system down and get into a routine, but in no time you will beable to do it like second nature.

I'm probably not as extreme at couponing yet, but I don't think the planning takes me that long at all.
