How do you organize your coupons?

I have a mini accordian type file where I have my coupons broken down by category. I'm starting to outgrow this system though as there aren't enough file spaces. How do you organize yours?

Kori, Do you use one slot per coupon? Or put, say, all juice coupons in one, all yogurt coupons in one, etc.?

one slot holds 2 coupons. I organize it (again for my brain) by categories - for instance my first tab is 'beverages' so on these pages, I'll have Qs for juice, tea, vitamin water, soda, capri sun, etc and I learned a little trick to mark/highlight the Qs with a color (designated by you one for each month) so that you can tell in which month the Q will expire so that it's easier to pull it out and discard at month's end.

I cut plain light cardstock to fit in the pockets so that it splits each pocket into a back and a front :)

I'm an accordian file girl, too, which is still working for me.

I use accordion files, too - although I use 3 of them. I use the "whole insert" filing method, because I simply don't have time to sit and clip all of the coupons each week. Also, with the great lists of sites like http://southernsavers.com they tell you exactly which newspaper insert (ex. January 9th's Smart Source, etc) or links to printables, so I just clip the coupons I need for a given trip - usually while I'm watching Grey's or Desperate Housewives, LOL.

Anyway, the largest size acordion has 26 sections - I've got one per month, as well as additional ones for the main stores that I shop (and just keep that week's inserts or special store mailers in there).

Then I have a medium size accordion - like the small ones but is a bit wider. This has 13 sections that I have divided into the main grocery store isles that I shop. In here I keep either internet printables, coupons that sometimes come on products themselves, or coupons I've previously clipped but ended up not using.

Both of those always stay at home...

Finally, I have a small size accordion, which is the one that travels with me. It has the same 13 categories as the medium size accordion. This is where I keep and organize coupons for a given trip. I just check the list for the stores I'm going to on a certain trip, and file by category. I also keep my shopping list in the front section.

Perhaps not as organized as the full out binder method, but I can't see spending more time on it than I do (usually 1-2 hours a week, although it's while watching TV so you know how easy it is to sometimes get distracted!) ;) I find that I HAVE to have a full plan in mind before I go shopping, otherwise I WILL overspend, even if it is a deal. So I've got my list down with each item, how much I'll spend, how many items I'm buying vs how many cupons I'll use, etc. I even have my price marked up with sales tax so I know my exact total before hitting the store. The small accordian makes it very easy / organized while I'm out. While I'm shopping, I'll move coupons that I use to the front pocket - that way at checkout I've got them all ready to go and am not fumbling through coupons (you know how it is - sometimes you plan to get something, but either the store doesn't have any, or you decide against it, etc.) :)

Hmmm you're really making me want to move to a binder, I just think I'd feel self-conscious about it. I mean, I wouldn't give it a second thought if I saw someone in the store with one, I just might feel funny myself...eh, you know what I mean. :smileywink:

I use the mini accordion folder as well... it still works for me! plus I have extras in a little pencil case in my handbag as well.... those "just in case" coupons ( just in case I see a great deal!) and havent had a chance to file them away yet...

I do the same as you, Laura - if I have 3 like coupons, I'll put them in the same slot, but if it's not exactly the same, it gets its own slot.
