Not sure if coupons will work for me

Hi all... I love reading about the great deals others get and the money they save with coupons and other shopping techniques, but I am not sure if coupons will work for me. The majority of the coupons I see are for things I don't buy, so am I just buying the wrong things (lol) or just not getting the right coupons. I am trying to save money by cutting out processed foods, buying store brands and shopping sales, but it seems like there is more I could be doing. What kinds of coupons do you find to be the most useful and can you give me an idea of the stuff you seem to save a lot of money on w/ coupons? Thanks.

Hi Missy :) I hear this a lot as many of the coupons out there are really for quite random items, processed food, etc.

Missy- I used to think the same thing. But after doing it awhile I have found that you can still save lots of money with coupons.

Hi Missy - it's Adrienne - my nickname is Kori and I actually meant to sign in under this acct (but I couldn't remember my log in info from way back lol).

Anyway, I usually look at the website as that is what becomes available to me first, then I double check with my circulars when I get those. :)

Thats the same up here in Canada too!!! alot of the coupons are for processed foods.... Personally I love finding the coupons which are good on health and beauty stuff.... so when we save in that area( razors, shampoo, face wash, body wash, toothpaste etc etc etc) we can afford to splurge on fruit and veggies for example...

Thanks Laura ... that's a good point. I doubt that I will become an extreme coupon guru but I do think I can save more money than I'm doing right now with them. I've been researching our local fliers and downloading some coupons for things/brands I know I buy already.

Thanks Melissa ... that is a good way to look at it. There are some "staples" (at least what I consider staples lol) that I've found coupons online for so far (Like Goya canned beans). I haven't checked out the pet food sites yet, but I should do that as well.

We have 2 cats, a dog and 3 fish so I'm always looking for good deals too and I was so surprised to find fish food on sale LOL - I mean I didn't buy it because it was flake food and we have betas who eat pellet food, but still it was such a random thing to find a coupon for!

I find it easier to buy my dog's stuff with coupons than the cats because he loves treats and the cats are snobby about it. I have not yet used a Q for catfood, but as we have just run out, I'm on the hunt for one or I will use my Rite Aid UPRs to buy a bag

Anyway, I totally agree with you about it being so much for processed foods, but couponing the way you are, saving on hygiene and beauty products, is perfect because it allows you to save in one area and splurge in another. I love that about couponing, that you can tailor it to your needs :) <3

I have very few guidelines for my couponing, but one of them is that I won't buy something that I absolutely do not need (or will not need in the next 6 months) UNLESS

- it is 100% free

-someone I know can use it or it is a donatable (is that even a word? LOL) item

- it makes me money

And I don't want to turn into a hoarder so good deal or not, I still assess what I have and need.
