Yesterday we had the Christmas parade in my little town, Olive Branch, MS.  It was a good time, my daughter brought hot cocoa and ginger crinkles (family recipe) and we sat with her third grade sleepover buddies, now moms to 11 kids who are allowed to call me Granny.

I'm having trouble adding text after the picture, but I'm the stoic one behind the boy scout (my grandson Aaron).  We didn't need hot cocoa, it was 75 F and we were sweating, most people were in shorts and sleeveless.  Whatever.  it's Dec. 1 in Mississippi, you never know what to expect.

But so many versions of Jingle Bells all day made me recall my favorite.  Sung every year by my big brother and me:

"Jingle Bells...shotgun shells...Granny's got a gun!  She shot me in my underpants, and really made me run!"

this version is cute

We now have 2 deer in the freezer and I think I know what will be on the table for Christmas dinner.  My SIL got an 8 point buck yesterday, after a doe a few weeks back.

You had your Christmas parade already?  I don't even know if the town here has a parade for Christmas.  The way things are going with the weather, I would not dare go.  I'm certainly ready to head to Africa any time now.  It is darn cold here.  And we still do not have any snow.  But I am staying here for the holiday because of mom.  If she was not here, I would have been in Africa long ago.  I'm sick of this cold.  I need some heat!!!!!  Bring on the heat!!!!! Smileycons!

Our Christmas parade is tomorrow. It's very small town with homemade floats made on hay wagons and pulled by tractors, but they also have horse-drawn sleighs with bells for Santa which are beautiful, and really sound like Christmas, even if there is no snow yet.
