Hi swim_mom! We've compiled a few lists of apps you might like...

Top 5 Apps to Make You a Better Cook

There's a cool app listed there called Grocery IQ where you can just scan the bar code of the product you're out of and it adds it to your list. It's designed by Coupons.com so it has ecoupons integrated, which is nice.

Lol well I don't have an iPhone or any other sort of cell phone...BUT I do have an iPad ,.....(and can see it) and I am soooooo enjoying the apps out there. I. Can't even list all the ones I have checked out off the top of my head, but one of the biggest to start was epicurious then I moved on to some Aussie ones like ABCfoodie. I do enjoy the Martha ones and also nigella Lawson, they are great really easy to follow. I did also get heaps where you could type your own recipes to store (paprika, recipe box and big oven), but found I was not really using them that much. I know I am bad but have not checked out the iVillage ones and will be sure to do that tomorrow after I get some sleep. I had not seen them and usually just go through the list at the apps page...oh I forgot, Jamie Oliver ones are really good value and you can get previews. I so totally love my recipes on my iPad....using some tomorrow night with a guest coming.

The one thng I can't do since I have iPad 1 and not 2' is do what my daughter does and used her iPhone and uses it to read a bar code of something she is running put of in the pantry etc and the app adds it to her shopping list and if you put where you are shopping it even tells her where it is in the supermarket .

Can you tell my iPad and recipes are on all the time.....totally LOVE it. Now am falling asleep but any questions just ask I may even have more ideas for you in the morning...oh and all recipes app is really useful too. You have to work out which ones would be best for you. What do you like to cook most at this time of the year?

I've been finding out that having 2 very hungry eaters in the house puts a big hole in the food budget. They usually eat anything, but I try to cook healthy as possible.

Thanks for the suggestions Kellie! I played with Grocery IQ, I didn't really like it since you had to scan each of the barcodes to get the info. There has to be a less painful way to enter all my food stuffs!

Hi everyone, I'm actually a long-time reader but first time poster LOL. I live in West Village in New York City... so pretty close to iVillage LOL. I actually think I might have the perfect app for you, swimmom. I've been hearing a lot about this application in development from this group of moms I get together with on a weekly basis. Basically, you take a picture of your grocery receipt and it stores the ingriedents on your phone and then suggest a recipe. I think the creator of it is some computer wiz kid from Stanford who comes from a big family... so his mom must have taught him a thing or two about cooking LOL.

Curiosity got me so I had to take a look.
For a shopping list I do use one called shop shop and it is a blank list and when you have time you populate it with things you know you buy then when getting ready to shop you just click and they transfer to your list for that day. I added a cost so I would see when prices change, eg john west tuna $2. It kind of helps see when there is a price hike and I give it a miss that week. Unfortunately it is not linked to any recipes. With all the technology changes more and more apps come on the market every day.
