Today is brisky cool, high gusty winds, still damp from yesterday's rains, and so gray and overcast.

We had kind of a gray overcast day today, too, with a few drops of rain. I'm sure it rained somewhere in the valley, just not where we were! We always started school the day after Labor Day, as well. I think that was the traditional start, & got out the first week of June (we never had to worry about snow days in Vegas!). Not sure why we start a week early & get out the same time or a little later now...

I don't recall getting as long a break in winter when we were kids, for Christmas. mostly because we had Harvest break so the kids could help on the farm. And we got NO spring break.

We always got 2 weeks off for Christmas & we didn't get spring break, we got Easter break the week following Easter. So funny to me now being on the internet & seeing all of my friends from around the country, most of their kids are done with "spring break" before it is even spring. They complain that they couldn't do anything 'cuz it was snowing & stuff. Our break is still the week after Easter here. My sister in NY gets winter break, a week in February & my nephew in CO would get fall break in October, at the start of hunting season.
