The heat and drought has taken it's toll on everything I planted this year. Every night after supper I water. Tonight I saw a baby zucchini. Just one. I am so excited.

The plants were a couple of bucks. I've probably poured five bucks of water on them. So that $7 zucchini had better be R e a l l y good.

LOL, I had a $7 zucchini too, before the squash bugs AND the heat killed everything!

My garden yield was dismal this year. One cubanelle and one jalapeno. 3 eggplant. Lots of tomatoes but half needed tossing. Lost a giant oak (several actually) during Hurricane Irene, next year my garden will get lots more full sun.

We get random "prunings" from tornadoes that come through, and it makes us very aware that those giant oaks can look perfectly healthy...until they get ripped out by a gale-force wind and you can see that the trunk was nearly hollow.
