Since I have contact dermatitis I'm constantly browsing my pantry for stuff to substitute for soaps, shampoos, cleaning products, etc. etc.  My latest love is coconut oil sea salt scrub.  I saw it in the ladies room at Lambert's (home of the throwed rolls) while I was on vacation, and one of the ladies in our group said, "oh, you've got to try that!  It's divine!  I want to stick my feet in it!"

So I did a little googling and found ALL KINDS of recipes for salt and sugar scrubs.  The formula is simple:  1 cup salt or sugar of choice, 1/2 cup oil of choice.  Optional, add a few drops of essential oil for fragrance and/or a few drops of Vitamin E oil.  I opted for simple table salt and coconut oil.  It was marvelous for my feet, and for all over!  WARNING:  Do your feet by themselves, getting into the shower with oil on your feet is a BAD idea!

You rub the scrub onto your skin, let it sit to soak in, and then rinse away the salt.  I do my feet using a dish pan to rinse.  Then for the overall softening & exfoliating, I can do my arms, legs and neck, then rinse in a warm shower.  You won't feel greasy, just moist.  I can imagine a lot of people will be getting this for gifts for the holidays!

Sugar scrubs are best for your face, gentler than salt scrubs (and friendlier to the eyes).  Brown sugar is the mildest.  These scrubs are good kept in an airtight container, preferably glass.  Use plastic if you will not be using the container for anything else in the future.  It will keep for a few weeks.

Oil choices:  Coconut, palm, olive, safflower, canola, vegetable...not baby oil, only edible stuff.

Salt choices:  Kosher, sea salt, epsom salt, table salt.  The coarser the grain the rougher the scrub.

Sugar choices:  Table sugar, brown sugar, caster sugar.

Have fun!
