Is your town famous for a special dish? Is there a restaurant that people come to from near and far for a popular menu item?

This being Memphis, we are famous for BARBEQUE!  We've got a few other local specialties:  catfish and grits comes to mind.  Turnip & collard greens are big.  But BBQ RULES here!

OMG, I love Hot Brown!

Forgot to mention KY burgoo. It's a chicken based stew, you can use any meat or combo really. The original I believe called for squirrel. But we'll go with chicken. There is a tomato base, veggies, and Worcestershire sauce.

Evelyn, you are a KY girl too? A Hot Brown originated in the Brown Hotel in Louisville (you can tell a KY native by that pronunciation, it's Loo-a-vull). The dish is sliced turkey and ham over toast, smothered in cheese sauce, topped with a tomato. No words for the sinful decadence. Fried chicken is big here.

Each year our town hosts a Rocky Mountain Oyster festival. It is quite the specialty and people do come from all over.  Not sure why, though.  The thought of eating it makes me cringe!  I have never tried them, and never will.  :)

There is an excellent Chinese buffet here in our town that has had tour buses come from as far as 180 miles away to eat at.

The owners are great and the food is awesome!

We're really close to New Orleans so there are a TON of local food specialities near us! Crawfish (any kind of seafood, really), gumbo, Jambalaya, and beignets (my favorite!) are just some of the ones that popped into my head.

What is a "hot brown" ?

The town I was born in is famous for the cheeseburger and hot brown. I no longer live there and I know you can get cheeseburgers anywhere so I don't know if they still come for a hot brown or not.
