I never seem to have them when I need them either. I'd love to try growing houseplants, but my apartment doesn't get enough light. Cry

The kids and I kept a "garbage garden" in the kitchen, planting lots of scraps.  If you want a really beautiful house plant, plant your orange, lemon, and grapefruit seeds.  Avocado pits also produce a lovely houseplant; I grew mine into 7 foot trees.  You won't get fruits on any of these, grown as houseplants, but they are fun and beautiful. 

I like the idea of having a steady supply of green onions.  I never have any when I want them.
