Did you plant a garden this year, getting any veggies/herbs yet? If you buy from a road side stand or at the farmers market do you find the prices higher this year?

I've gotten green beans, basil and hot peppers so far from my garden. Squashes, zucchini, eggplant, peppers and cukes from MIL garden. I have noticed at the farmers market it's 4 dollars for a pound of tomatoes. Seems a bit high to me, can't wait for my tomatoes to turn red!

We didn't put in anything in this year. And I haven't been to our farmers' market in years. We do have stands around here and we'll stop once in a while.

Nothing planted but I have cleared out some of the garden beds and pots....does that count as step 1? A bit cold to go to the markets at this time of year, although I did go for a short time and picked up a butternut pumpkin doe almost nothing. Just deciding to cut it up for roasting or to make soup. I am sooooooo missing tomato season. Today is supposed to be an unseasonally warm day. I sure hope they are right.

I haven't priced veggies and fruit at the stands but sure they run about the same as the farmers market.

Yes would be a bit chilly for you to have a garden right now. I miss fresh tomatoes once winter comes and can't wait for Spring to plant them!

My herbs are doing well-basil, thyme, oregano, mint, sage-parsley and chives did not do well! I got a few banana and jalapeno peppers and no tomatoes so far, although there are blooms on the plant. It is so very hot, the plants are struggling.

I find the prices fairly similar @ the Farmer's Market-a little higher at the produce stand...very much higher at the grocery.

What a nice bunch of herbs. I was down to mint until last week and now I have nothing. Let's just say when you have three guys come in armed with chain saws and poison you really really need to be specific about what you want done. The guy that used to do it always asked if in doubt. I know I told these guys that I liked the ground cover finally spreading as it choked out the weeds, but now I have plain dirt! No idea what will grow back, probably weeds.

Yeah, they can really clean out a flower bed! Sometimes even being specific doesn't help!

I just can't fork over the prices they want for small packages of wilted herbs! You can only get fresh bunches of parsley and cilantro! I roasted a chicken yesterday stuffed with rosemary, sage and thyme-it made the whole house smell good!

You almost copied what we had for dinner....a roasted chicken and fresh herbs, although I did not grow them apart from the thyme. I have three bushes and would have been fine if they cleared out one or two, but they left them lane lol lol. I included a cut up lemon and orange in the chicken. I have a very full lemon tree and orange tree at the moment. Just need to find the time to make lemon curd/butter and figure out what to do with the oranges apart from my yummy pork chops cooked in OJ. Not going to pick them till I work it out. Cooking with herbs makes the house smell wonderful.

Yes it's been a pretty dry summer so plants are struggling. I think my flowers are suffering more though. I do try and water but the ground is so dry it'd take a heavy rain. We did get a pretty good soaking yesterday so hope it helps.
