A friend gave me this recipe and not sure how much she adapted it from the original but it sounds good. Thinking of making it this weekend BUT have a question. Tomato paste to me is a really thick paste that usually comes in a foil pouch or smallish jar and you use spoonfulls of it. I don't think I have ever put a whole cup in anything so I am thinking that might in fact be what I would call a thick tomato puree, that you usually buy in a can,

Tomato paste here comes in small cans. It's much more concentrated that tomato sauce. Hopefully someone else can give you more information.

Suzi I looked up her recipe and it does call for 1 cup. I think with all the liquid type ingredients the 1 cup is to thicken it.

Thanks guys. Having a dinner party on the weekend, so if I BBQ I thought this would be something different to try. Maybe I will cat the one cup a little and just keep tasting as I go. If not this weekend then I will try it soon. A nice sauce can really lift a meal. Guess I should get busy organizing what I will cook before the weekend is here.

Tomato paste is thicker than tomato puree-this makes a huge amount of sauce-enough to use and freeze-this recipe looks like it calls for a 10 ounce can of paste (a large can) that will pour out to an 8 ounce liquid cup measure..she is an excellent cook so I would trust her recipe!

Suzi-here tomato paste comes in cans and tubes-the tubes are for recipes that call for tablespoons of paste but many pasta and bbq sauces call for larger quantities and we use cans-it is the same thing!

You might have to wait a week more as I am changing the menu for the dinner party, but I really do want to try this soon. Love the freezing side of it. Guess i will be buying one of those larger Leggo's jars of tomato paste..........Stay posted!

I hear you. Thanks for the clarification guys. Looking forward to giving this a go. I will post when I do. I am collecting some jars to have for freezing some of this. Six cups is a lot of BBQ sauce.
