I love iced coffee/frappuccinos but they can definitely put a dent in your wallet. Anyone have any home recipes for flavored ones? I tried my hand at a mock Starbucks mocha coconut but it was a ton of work (with toasting the coconut) and even though it was shredded coconut, I think the recipe missed chopping it or something because it was getting stuck in the straw.

What's the best way to make it? I've been just making coffee and pouring it over ice. Is there a better way, taste wise?

Starbuck is out!  ;-)  Not exactly a recipe, but great source of inspiration here:

Having said that, what do you look for in an ice coffee?  I sm perfectly happy with espresso, milk, and ice cubes as I am not really into the dessert type drinks.

I used to think that the idea of iced coffee was horrible until I tried it. I absolutely love it now and have to limit myself or I'd drink it all day long. I haven't tried to make any myself yet but hope you get some good recipes so I can give it a whirl. My latte` factor is really high these days since discovering iced coffee. ;-)

Oh those look good! I like creamy iced coffee and since I drink non-fat with everything, I indulge with my iced coffees and order cream. Not too dessert like here either.

Here's a really in-depth recipe (frankly I'm not sure I'd bother with al that trouble, but if you're willing): http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2011/06/perfect-iced-coffee/

If you have a particular drink you like I'd google that and add "copycat" at the end. I'm sure you'd find a ton, of course finding the version that tastes the best to you is another story. ;)

We have an iced coffee/frappuccino machine. This one: http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Coffee-BVMC-FM1-20-Ounce-Frappe/dp/B002FWMF8G - I think it's 2 years that we've had it now. We love it! Brews the coffee right into it and then off you go. Drives the dog completely bonkers.
