Chia seeds?

Mel - was it you who uses chia seeds in your smoothies?
I am wondering if you soak them or not (and for how long) and if it makes your smoothies super thick? I was reading a bit online and some people seem to soak them and others not, but they say to drink your smoothie right away so it doesn't thicken up too much. How quickly is "right away"? I am usually done with mine in 15 minutes or so, but Riley can take awhile longer.... don't want to turn him off smoothies.

CHIA SEEDS (Salvia hispanica L.) are one of Nature’s perfect foods, containing essential fatty acids (an excellent vegetarian source of omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid), protein, soluble fiber, protective antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and more.
I am thinking like the protein boost in Greek versus regular yogurt, they make a smoothie more filling. I am looking forward to trying them.
I want to try them too...
Snady - I was thinking you were going to tell Cara that she could tear off the green shoots on the chia-pet and put THOSE in her smoothie.... lol.
One question...... do y'all use a blender for your smoothies or do you have a smoothie maker?
It is darn cold here the past few days and I cannot imagine drinking a frozen drink in it..... does it make you even colder?
Haven't really noticed the difference with the chia seeds - a little thicker, maybe, but not a ton.
We have a Vitamix blender for smoothies. It cost a mint, but it is so worth it!. Zips through frozen fruit in seconds. I have been running it longer to get the chia seeds ground up better.
We always use the Greek yogurt - buy it in bulk from Costco, along with the frozen strawberries and blueberries. Tasty. Don't get the spinach there, though.
Daisy - I use a blender. I haven't made any in awhile because of the weather.
