Christmas Weekend Plans
Fri, 12-21-2012 - 7:20am

Anything going on this weekend?   What are you doing for Christmas?

Tonight I am just going to revel in being on vacation. DS has a friend spending the night. I think I'll grill burgers for supper. We'll have that with tater tots and green beans. DD and I have a ton of trash TV to catch up on.

Tomorrow I will get up and go for a run. Then I have some last minute errands to run. I have one stocking stuffer to get for DS. Santa always brings undies and I haven't picked him up a pack yet. I need to get my toes done. And I have groceries to buy. My DD's softball team is doing the Kroger gift cards as a fund raiser so I want to grocery shop there. I put some extra money on the card a few weeks ago, after getting a check with a lot of overtime on it, so those groceries were paid for weeks ago. Score! I need to shop for my Christmas Eve and Christmas night meal contributions.

I am in charge of the spaghetti and meatballs for Christmas Eve, plus a tiramisu for dessert. Christmas night I will make corn pudding and broccoli casserole.

Sunday we will go to church and then light cleaning.

The kids will head out with their dad that afternoon. They'll spend that night with him and do Christmas with his family all day on Christmas Eve. I get them back around 5:00 that night.

On Sunday afternoon I have a Happy Hour to go to with my old swim team. We are meeting at 4:00. I am thinking there will be some of us staying out past happy hour. But we'll wait and see what happens there. Jeff will meet up with me there.

I am so excited for Christmas.   I love this time of year.

Gloria, the poodle.  I'd love to see a picture of her after grooming.

I edited my typos, but iVillage didn't change them.

We were set up in the parking lot outside PetSmart.  The weather was in the low sixties, sunny and a little breezy.  It is one of those town-square-type malls, where you park and walk to individual stores and restaurants.  The place was packed.  Customers at PetSmart were in the holiday spirit, and many of them bought inexpensive toys and gave them to the shelter dogs.  Buddy was given a little, stuffed, squeaky snowman.  He attacked it, tossed it, growled, wagged, and tore it up within five minutes.  Then he wanted the elf toy the next dog over had.  Another customer saw what he did and bought him a knotted rope toy.  I put it in his cage to take back to the shelter with him.  I hope they don't take it from him and toss it in the washer with everyone else's.  It's all he has for Christmas :(

Yes, if I didn't already have two dogs, I would have brought him home with me.  At least as a foster.  He would have to be crated, because he appears to a destructive little terrier.  Not really my style, but he is so dadgum cute.

Thi s is "Warnell," but he seems to answer to "Buddy." He didn't get adopted at the PetSmart event this afternoon, and it broke my heart to put him back in the trailer. He is housebroken and sits on command, loves people and kids, but probably needs to be ann only dog, because he doesn't like other dogs very much. He is listed as a Cairn Terrier mix, and he is young - definitely under 2.
Buddy, I am so sorry you didn't get a home for Christmas.

I agree.. I'd want to take every last one of them home.

Friday at work, I was packing up most the day... all the last minute stuff.  It was exhausting.  Then I came home and watched the kids while Amber & Ash got Amber's house ready for my hubby's side Christmas gathering Saturday night.  They didn't get back until after 10:00 pm and then Nick picked them all up at 11:15pm.  I was really tired.

Saturday morning I slept in... and at 10:30 me & hubby went up to Sam's to get a box springs for Amber & Nick for Christmas.  Then we brought it home, I went back to Walmart to pick up some stuff for Presley and groceries for Christmas dinner and was home by noon.

I made Tracy's queso and 2 chocolate pies for the Christmas thing at Ambers and then we left to go there at 4:30.  We had a good time... my hubby's nephew always stays late... but by 11:00 I was ready to go home, I had a headache and I was having hot flashes all night.  Plus, they are the L O U D E S T family ever so I was ready to go home.  And I figured Jason wasn't going to leave until we did and I know Amber was tired too.. plus, poor Presley could not sleep because the kids were all making too much noise and their dog barked practically the whole time we were there.

I was right.. when I said we were leaving, Jason said he would leave too... he called me a party pooper... lol.

This morning I slept in and we did not go to church.  Glenda came over for a bit but she just left and now I need to go make fudge and white trash... I still have not done that.  I feel like I just want to be lazy and lay on the couch ... but I need to push myself to clean up the kitchen from the mess I made making those pies & Tracy's Queso... which was a hit by the way!

Tomorrow Ashleigh has to work but me and my hubby are off.  I will probably get all the last minute stuff done for my sister & Kendra to stay here (wash sheets & blankets, dust, mop, etc.) and then we do plan to go to one of the Christmas Eve services tomorrow evening.  Susan & KK get here around 10:00 pm tomorrow night and my mom & dad will get them at the airport and then everyone will come here for a while.  I hope they don't stay too late though... I don't want everyone to feel like crap on Christmas Day.

I don't know if I could work at the shelter either Tracy.  I would end up taking them all home with me.

Gaye, that is so heartbreaking.   How do you keep from taking them all?   Of course this guy wouldn't work since he doesn't like others.   But, I know it would kill me.

Gloria, the seven-year-old white poodle did get adopted.  A woman adopted her for her mother, who had seen Gloria online.

We took 17 dogs and 16 got adopted.  My heart is breaking for the little Cairn terrier who had to go back to the shelter.  He is young, handsome, intelligent, playful, kid-friendly, people-friendly, neutered, microchipped, housebroken, sits on command.  Perfect -- except he doesn't like other dogs.  His picture with me is on my Facebook page.

Doing the PetSmart adoption event Saturday morning.  I'm done with family Christmas doings and nobody else is.  I have time to volunteer for this, so I will.  Hope we don't have any mental cases trying to adopt the best dog at the event.    We usually don't know what dogs are going until that morning.  There is a 7-year-old, female, white poodle at the shelter that really needs a loving home and a trip to the groomer.  I hope she gets selected.

Sunday is church, and an extra choir rehearsal.

Christmas eve, I have two Masses to sing.

Tonight I am pretty much following what Tracy is doing except no grilling.  It is raining cats and dogs out there! I plan on skipping out an hour early to hit my Zumba class.  Then home to relax.  Not sure on what dinner will be since John has his office party starting at 2:00 pm and they usually get out early.  He may not be all that hungry.

Saturday I need to get to the grocery store.  I have lots to buy since I am having both Christmas Eve and Christmas day company.  I need to get some gifts wrapped and laundry taken care of also.  Tomorrow night we have a graduation/going away/Christmas party at one of John's cousins house.  Their son just graduated from college and is heading off to North Carolina right after the 1st of the year .

Sunday I plan on hitting the "Y" in the morning and then home to start getting things ready for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  I may be able to talk John into going out to look at Christmas lights and dinner out but it depends upon the weather.
