Fiscal Cliff Concerns?

Is anyone else following this fiscal cliff stuff going on? It has me terrified. If the average middle class worker is expected to pay an additional $3,000 a year in taxes, that is almost $300 a month in new taxes. I DO NOT HAVE THAT. I am scared to death. If that comes to fruition, I stand a good chance of losing my house. I'd have to try to sell my car to buy something older and less reliable. And then I may have to sell the house and move back home.

I have a college degree and a good job. The fact that the government is making is so that people like me can't afford to live infuriates me. On months where I have car insurance due, or softball fees to pay, or a haircut, I have no idea how I will have the money for that. I have some buffer now, but with an additional $250 a month out of my check there would never be another buffer.

I am terrified. Have I said that?? These politicians have better get it together and agree on something.

Anyone else sweating this?

The closer it gets I'm starting to pay a bit more attention.  I think its the governments way to freak people out.  Just like other times, I think they'll come up with an agreement just before the deadline and then look like super stars for figuring it all out.

I really have not been paying attention to it. I hope it doesn't happen Tracy. I think a lot of us would be in the same boat.I hope Susan is right.

Well, yeah.  I'm on Social Security and Medicare, and they are threatening to throw us under the bus.

I hope you all are right. Although the scare tactic, if that's what it is, isn't really appreciated.

From what I am hearing on the news it is all political play at this point. If the republicans deal now, they are "raising taxes". If they wait until after the new year they can say they are "cutting taxes" by making the exact same deal. All political BS.

Here is one of my friends that keeps up with this stuff wrote on fb:

The House has passed legislation to avert the entire fiscal cliff, and the president has never called for the Senate to act on those bills in any way. He instead has simply allowed the Democratic-controlled Senate to sit on them and lead our economy to the edge of the fiscal cliff." ~John Boehner

This is true. And yet, the leader of the free world, who by the way is acting like a spoiled, petulant man child, has the gall to blame the Republicans. It's dishonest and despicable and it is NOT the kind of leadership we need.

Remember this is 'her' qutoe =)

I am confident there is crap going on with both sides.   And I truly believe neither party really understands what it is like to be us, the little guys.

They both need to give a little and compromise.   Selfishness sucks.

Yes, they both need to compromise!

I like your friend's opinion, Renee.... if that is true, it is really REALLY selfish of him to make us sweat like this.

I, like Tracy, am scared to death..... especially with the health care thing on top of it.  I stand to have to pay at least $500 or more per month for my health insurance.  I am thinking maybe I should "self" insure... put that $500 in the bank every month and pay for my own health care but I am thinking maybe that isn't even an option any more...

I have NO wiggle room in my finances..... NONE!

And breaking news is that no agreement will be reached by midnight tonight.   Maybe this isn't just a scare tactic this time.
