bahaha Sandy! If they are not in use, I will usually kick the door open and see what I might be getting myself into. :) Left, middle or right doesn't bother me, I will pick the one that is clean, flushed and no toilet paper strung everywhere!
If all stalls are available, I would usually use the first one I came to. However, I have been known to look into all of them and see which one is the cleanest!
I tend to go towards the one furthest from the door - I read a study somewhere that the first one (or few in a long bank) are the germiest! That being said, if the first one I pick looks less than clean (or the lock is wonky, or there is no hook to hang my purse) I will try a different one. And if the far one is handicapped, I will try and avoid that so that if someone actually needs it, it would be available. And I try and leave an empty between me and another occupied stall.
Okay, I guess I should have prefaced my question by saying, "If all 3 stalls are empty and impeccably clean..." y'all crack me up.
The reason I ask this question is that over here in my new area, we no longer have a private, girls only, open with a key after knocking, one toilet bathroom. We have a public restroom that is in the hallway with 3 stalls and 2 sinks. When I first started over here, I hated the thought of my work bathroom being public and for some reason I always went to the stall against the wall and then one day I thought to myself, why do I do that?? So I started taking turns.... lol.
But, I have found that, actually, my favorite is the middle and it's probably not for the reason you'd think. It's because the toilet paper dispenser is located on the right side if you are sitting on the pot... the other 2 stalls have dispensers on the left. I have no idea why I like that better, maybe because I'm right handed.... BUT, like Cara said, if someone is in one of the 2 ends, I will go in the opposite end so as not to be right up next to them.
Luckily, and I can't believe it, but this public bathroom with 3 stalls is always cleaner than our private bathroom up on the 11th floor used to be ... We have an awesome janitor here, Jimmy, who cleans it every morning including mopping the floor and changing the trash. If one of the stalls is out of TP or the paper towel is empty, all I have to do is put a sticky note on the janitor closet door and he restocks as soon as he sees it.
We had a good janitor up on 11 too, Sam, but his supervisors kept pulling him to other areas to cover when that person called in sick... it was irritating to him and to us!
The one not in use.
exactly what Sandy said!

Same thing, the cleanest. If they are the same, the one on the end,
Ditto ditto ditto what Susan said. If they are nasty enough I won't even go.
