I hope you don't mind my chiming in.  I've never posted to this specific forum before.

I agree with the others who have said to start off slow.  A 30 minute walk each day will do wonders if you're not used to exercise.  I love the Jillian Michaels DVDs.  My favorite is her Kickbox FastKick.  It's a set of 3 workouts.  Each are about 20 minutes, and they go by so fast.  The Shred was effective, but hard.  Kickbox is not difficult and it's fun, so that's why it goes by fast.  After your body gets used to it, you can combine workouts, add weights, etc.  I don't really use my DVD as much as I used to because now I take MMA classes four times a week.

I also agree with using MFP (my fitness pal).  It will help you see how many calories you're consuming, how much you're exercising, and how much water you're drinking.  I don't log my food and exercise minutes anymore, but when you're starting out this information can be really eye-opening and very useful in setting up a plan.

Shelly, walking is good for you. I've been doing it for a few years now. It helps if you can find a walking partner so you can be held accountable. It's so easy to talk yourself out of it when you don't have another person relying on you to show up.

I don't know if you have comcast cable....can't remember. They have exercise videos On Demand for free. Every kind of exercise routine you can think of is on there. I do those when it's freezing outside or raining.

Good luck! You can do it.

Welcome Amy!  Its always good to see new faces, especially with the format change.

Shelly - I agree with the others.  The biggest shock for me was the amount of calories in things I ate.  WOW, what a wake up.  I am a pasta/carb fanatic, so that was a hard one to swallow.  Once you start exercise and get in a routine for a few weeks, you will start to feel better and you feel like a blob when you don't exercise.  Good Luck!

Welcome to Amy!   It is wonderful when new people visit despite the perils of the format change.   We love it.

My DD has been doing Insanity 5 days a week since October with the softball team.  She is 13 and in super shape.   She still comes home sore some nights.

That said, I still really want to try it.   Having moved to the newer Jillian DVD this week I have been in mild pain all week.   But it's a good pain, where you can tell you have really pushed your muscles to the brink and it's working.   I like the feeling.   I want that Insanity burn.   I will probably get one of the DVDs after I get back from our spring break trip.   I will do Jillian until then, and then only walk while we are at the beach.   Kick it up a notch on our return.

Gus - I use MFP and am allotted 1300 a day.  IT STINKS SOME DAYS!  But I'm getting used to it.

I am the first to admit that the extra calories you get on MFP are a huge motivator for me.   If I know I have big meal plans coming up, I will walk a lot at work in addition to my JM workout.   I get 1,500 a day.   I guess I am the lard butt of the group with that many.   My JM gives me 290 more.   Some days I need them, some days I don't.  But I like knowing they are there.

I am up from 4:30 AM- about 10:00 every day.
