What's cooking tonight?
If you read my agenda in the Babble thread, you know I am super busy today. I have to go to the softball field to pick up DD at 5:30, then have her back to school by 6:15 for a band concert. I laid out hamburger to thaw. I am going to make a casserole with it. I figure I can have that done and waiting on her when she gets home from practice. She can take 10 minutes to shovel some in before she has to change into her band clothes and take off again.
My hanburger casserole consists of browned beef, tomato soup, cheese, and noodles. I will either do that or mix it up and make a modified shepard's pie. DD and I both like those. When I do that I mix the browned beef with frozen mixed veggies, some brown gravy (usually made from a McCromick's envelope mix), and a can of creamed corn. Put the mashed potatoes on top of that.

Im trying something new! had 2 small roast beefs in the freezer, so I put those in the slow cooker, with a little bit of water, and bbq sauce( I wasnt sure if I needed to add water or not, but I did anyway lol).... assuming that turns out, we will have that on bread rolls with lettuce, and mashed potatoes and gravy! Yum!
I mixed up a meatloaf after supper last night, so DH will throw that in the oven. I'm thinking mashed potatoes and corn.
Mel, was your bbq roast too soupy? Just wondering because I hardly ever add water (and if I do, it's very little) especially when I'm adding a sauce. It makes water on it's own .. the condensation accumulates on the top of the slow cooker and drips back down onto the roast.
Susan, I think meatloaf tastes a lot better when it's made up the night before. I think the flavors get into the beef and make it so much tastier! Hope it was good.... do you use Onion Soup Mix? I can hardly eat meatloaf anymore if there's not an onion soup mix in it... lol.
I told my hubby he was on his own and I stopped and picked up a filet-o-fish from McD on the way home after seeing my mom. I have to admit, it was pretty tasty.... I almost got a Big Mac but all this talk about fast food places serving horse meat made me think twice... lol.
You knew it was coming so I don't want to disappoint. Meatloaf made with onion soup mix would be inedible to me. Susan is a fellow onion hater, so she may be with me on that one. I want to taste meatloaf, not onions.
I don't eat the meatloaf! DH is a onion hater more than I am. I can handle dry onion soup mix. I only use that for roast. I use MIL's recipe. hamburger, tomato juice, cracker cumbs, eggs, pinch of sugar, salt, and pepper. Then I put ketchup and bacon on top. I am picky about tomato things. I don't like tomatoes, tomato juice or ketchup, but I will eat spaghetti sauce and tomato soup?? Quirky, I know.
I have probably told y'all before but when we first got married i must have tried 8 or 9 different meatloaf recipes. I could not find one that my hubby was crazy about... until I made it with the onion soup mix. I do put a slathering of ketchup on the top about 15 minutes before it's done. Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and corn is his favorite meal... carb city! But it makes him happy and you know what they say... if daddy ain't happy, ain't nobody happy! Yeah I know it's usually momma but in our house it's daddy.... lol.
I don't use onion soup mix in my meatloar. Way too much sodium for us. Older you get the more you got to watch that sodium. Besides it makes me thirsty and also makes me hold water so my weight goes up.
Yes Tracy I would say the onion soup mix would have onions in it also.
I have found that to be true of most onion soups.
