During our trip last week we compared prices a lot. Let's do this on a bigger scale. Take the next few days and see what items cost in your area:
Gallon of gas:____________
Gallon of milk:____________
Loaf of bread (not the store brand):____________
Pound of ground chuck (not on sale)_____________
Pack of national brand cigarettes, we'll say Marlboro:_______________
2 liter of Coke product (not on sale):____________________
12-pack of Bud beer, bottles (not on sale):________________

True, Coke or Pepsi one is always on sale. Bread is something I need when I need it, so I just buy it and never look at the price. Same with milk. I rarely check that price. I figure most of us are the same; the sale price is listed in yellow and the regular price is on a white tag. I looked at my white tags for prices on here.
I just made a chart and compared around the world.
Gas: Hanna is highest at 6.90, but that does fluctuate a lot. At times of posting Missy is cheapest at $3.19
Milk: Mel and Hanna are the highest at $4.90 and $6.39. In the US the highest is Shelly at $3.68 a gallon. The cheapest is Cara and Tracy at $2.48/$2.49 a gallon.
Bread: the highest is Cara at $4.79 a loaf. The cheapest is Gaye and Tracy at $1.88/$1.89 a loaf.
Ground chuck: The highest is Hanna at $5 a pound. In the US the highest is Cara at $4.49 a pound. The cheapest is Tracy at $3.37 a pound. And I think that is crazy high. Wow.
Cigarettes: Most people didn't answer this one. I don't smoke and had to go ask. The highest is Hanna at $8. In the US the highest is Renee at $6.51 a pack. Tracy is the cheapest at $4.52 for Marlboros. I figured I'd be the cheapest here. We have a really low state cigarette tax. NC and KY are huge tobacco producing states.
Coke: The highest is Hanna at $3.90. In the US the highest is Missy, Cristol, and Guss at $1.99. The cheapest is Tracy at $1.34. They were on sale for .99 today.
Beer: The highest is Hanna at $25.50. In the US the highest is Missy at $14.99. The cheapest is Cristol at $8.99.
I am amazed that KY was the cheapest on so many items. I had always heard our cost of living was pretty low, but I do know that comparatively the housing market here is really high.
Yes, I finally went to the store and got this done;
Gallon of gas: it jumped .40 today, $3.79
Gallon of milk: $2.48
Loaf of bread (not the store brand): I priced Butternut. $1.88
Pound of ground chuck (not on sale): $3.37 a pound. That's crazy.
Pack of national brand cigarettes, we'll say Marlboro: $4.52
2 liter of Coke product (not on sale): $1.34- today it was on sale for .99
12-pack of Bud beer, bottles (not on sale): $9.88
Wow Christol if beer is $8.99 not on sale- does it go on sale ?
And our gas just jumped to $3.79 .... sucks when it goes up 28 cents a gallon.
A pint of milk here is $1.49 ...
I never buy more than a pint of milk at a time. I don't like it. Have no clue what a gallon costs. Kroger house brand is 99 cents a pint.
I buy bread at Aldi. $1.89 for the multigrain. Haven't bought white bread since I had diverticulitis years ago.
I just paid $3.22.9 for regular at Kroger. WOOT!
I don't buy ground beef unless the kids are coming over. I think I paid $3.68 a pound for the mid-grade I bought for the spinach meatballs.

I will note that I went to Safeway because it was closer instead of Wal Mart or King Soopers which are cheaper. I only go there when I need a few things.
