When you jot down a note on an unnecessary piece of paper do you call it  "scrap paper" or "scratch paper?"

Scrap paper here too.   However, I have said "scratch pad" a time or two referring to a pad just used for taking notes.

Huh... wonder if this is one of those regional things. I definitely say "scratch paper" and so do my parents and husband.

Neither, I say a piece of paper.  must write that down on a piece of paper.

But if you use it to jot a note down, then doesn't that make in a "necessary" piece of paper?

LOL... good thinking, Linda! I guess it IS necessary for a short while. I am pretty sure I say SCRAP paper...
