Susan mentioned paying her car taxes last week. What vehicle fees do you have in your state?
Do you have to pay yearly taxes on your car? Emmissions tests? Regular inspections?

Car taxes yearly. They changed the emissions testing. It use to be yearly but I don't remember what it is now.
In Ky we have to pay yearly taxes. That comes due in your birth month. It is computed by some formula having to do with the assessed value of your car. When you pay it you get a sticker to put on your license plate to show you paid.
We have no emmissions regulations or inspections to comply with.
The only thing we have to pay for is the license tag renewal (different color each year... in the pic below it's the green tag in upper right corner) and with that, we do have to prove the vehicle is insured.
I hope we never have to pay for that other stuff.
Every year I pay for "tags" for my car and DH's truck. The "tags" are the registration and little sticker for your car. For a passenger vehicle it's $34.50/year, and a light non-commercial truck is $49.50/year. This year I also had to get my lisence renewed (done every 4 years). That was $25.75. With taxes and such, I walked out of there paying $120. They used to have it expire at the end of your birth month, but now everything expires on your birthday.
When DH goes to renew his license in August, his CDL will be $44.75/year.
We have them on my birthday, since we usually have our tax money back by then. My vehicle is only in my name, but DH's truck we did a joint thing. There are no other testing or anything like that we have to do or pay for on a yearly basis.
How much is a license tag renewal, Daisy?
I am thinking we are on the high end here, except for what Cara described. I had to pay $365 in taxes last year. It's like a property tax for owning a car here. Because of it we have a high rate of KY residents that move here and keep their cars registered in another state. By law you have 15 days to transfer it to KY. And yes, there is a transfer fee you have to pay.
We have to get a yearly emmissions test that costs $10. Then if we pass the emmissions we take the paper over and have the car license renewed. That is around $77. It renews the month you license your car. Different color every year. It will be a 14 for the year 2014. Mine is in April so it's coming up. Ugghhh

taxes on a car? I don't understand that.
We pay tax on the car when we buy it- well when we go to the Sec of State and tell them how much we paid for it. I am not sure how it works with a new car - I havent had a new one since I was like 19.
We have a licence tag we purchase every year on our birthday - or the birthday of the owner of the car.
Mine were $91 last time. Maggie and Casey both just paid $60. But that was just to take them till their birthdays.
Every 4 years we get a new driver licence. $18 I think
