Of course I have. I like it okay, it's not my favorite but it's not bad. Jeff and my son like deer burgers. Blech. Not my thing at all. If I eat it it's a roast or steak. For the roast I do them like a beef roast in the Crock Pot and serve with gravy. If cooking the steak I mix up some flour with seasonings and shake the steak in it. I then cook it in a skillet with some olive oil and pepper strips. My son got an 8-point this year and Jeff got a buck and 2 does. I could get all the venison I want but rarely ask for it.
I have never cooked with it. But I have eaten it. Coming from Pennsylvania, I had family who hunted. The only thing I actually liked was deer baloney that my uncle would make. Everything else tastes gamey to me.
When I was growing up, the country folk (like us) ate deer. People in the burbs or who thought themselves fancy did not. When I moved here and saw venison for sale in the grocery store, I laughed. Who would buy that? Then I visited a few fancy where it is not only on the menu, but one of the most expensive items. Funny! I always associated it as something your neighbor gave you when they got a deer or two and had too much to eat themselves. Here it is fancy to eat deer and people don't hunt.
Never cooked it. I've eaten deer summer sausage and recently had marinated deer steaks to make into burritos. Tasted good to me. I haven't had it fixed too many different ways though.
