Renee asked me to post for her today....

What is the craziest thing you have ever done to get that special gift for that special someone?

Candice, I feel for you. I would have to say I pay way more for something than I would have if I would have just gotten it earlier. Ray has waited in line for Black Friday to get them a Wii one year. About 7 years ago Kelsie wanted a Dora kitchen. I couldn't find any here so I had to call family in Virginia and have them run out and get it and send it to us. It was a Santa item. There have been several incidences but these stick out the most.

When the kids were about 2 and 4, or maybe 1 and 3, DD announced that she told Santa that baby brother wanted a monster umbrella.

I don't think I've done anything crazy to get a gift. If they get it, they get it; if they don't, they don't.
Boy, I kind of feel like a Grinch saying that. :)

I'm the same, Susan. LOL Ethan asked for a real ninja sword and 100 storm trooper lego figurines (that's about $1000 in lego men)..

Needless to say, he won't be getting either of those. I got him a box of 4 storm troopers, and he didn't get a ninja sword. Santa has a rule about giving weapons to minors. He got a Nook Simple Touch, and other than that he has a bunch of other things between $10-$20. It's enough.

Luke asked for every single Star Wars lego set there is. Sorry, no can do. Greedy kid!

I have been lucky enough to find "the" gift in time that I didn't have to pay the super shipping but that doesn't mean I didn't turn my town UPSIDE down to find...the rod hockey game and a Wii to save myself the charges.

So the museum shop where we originally saw the stuffed character still has some. They set one aside and dh will walk over to buy it. It's not too far from his office. I did not tell him to buy all of them so we could make a quick $100 on eBay.

I think I am the Grinch, Susan... you will have to be my assistant, Max. :-)

Somehow we have managed to give our kids the fatalistic view that they won't get anything really cool, or any big thing that they really want. The year Santa brought the Wii they were both SHOCKED. We have always kept the gift thing pretty low-key, mostly because that is how we were raised. I remember when my brother and I got an Atari. We about fell over in shock, too. My kids get more expensive stuff than I did, but not by a whole lot......

I have never really gone overboard doing anything crazy. Mainly because my girls have really never asked for anything that was that popular... in fact, I really don't recall them asking for anything in particular... maybe a game or a doll... but nothing that was hard to find. I remember Amber wanted a Water-Baby... but we found plenty of them. My husband used to work for an armored vehicle company (like Brinks) and he had some friends at some of the retail stores he picked up every day. So, he did end up getting a Cabbage Patch doll... but Amber was only 3 and had no idea what it even was. But, he knew they were hard to get so he got her one. It was a "preemie" and the perfect size for her at the time.

Lena is getting a cabbage patch doll for Christmas this year, daisy! I wanted one so badly when I was a kid and I had to settle for a handmade one. I'm not sure she'll play with it, but she always likes the dolls at the store.

I guess not. I've thought about it, and can't come up with anything.
