The PTO is doing a food drive for the community. And then the Lion's Club (I think) makes up gift "baskets" for needy families in the community. I have sent in food with the boys to put into the boxes. I would like to do more, but right now times are a little tight on me.

Both girls schools did a can drive right before Thanksgiving, so I gave then.

I always send stuff in for the food drives at school. We often do an angel tree gift, or something like that. Last year one of the youth leaders got the kids involved in a toy drive that the Christian motorcycle club was doing. Our youth wrapped all of the gifts that were donated & we participated in that. This year DH decided that our youth group was going to be our charity. We are part of an inner city church, with a really good group of kids. They have "night light" 2 Fridays a month, where they go & hang out at church, they don't have much there, but they just love being together. We bought a bunch of balls, games & hula hoops the other night to give them, anonymously.

Nice idea Jaielyn.

I used to do all kinds of things, including volunteering but time is scarce now so...

Our church adopts families so each child gets a name to buy a gift for. I also send stuff into school and church for food drives a couple of times per year.

And, I typically have both kids pick a toy for Toys for Tots.

But, I know how you feel Tracy. The last 3 years my kids got a name of someone that I know is a religion that doesn't celebrate Christmas and was 20 years old, so why exactly am I buying gifts. It made me bitter about the whole thing. I was going to say something this year but we got 2 kids that don't appear to be of that religion.

We do the Salvation Army thing at work...clothes, toys, coats & boots. I work for a charity so I always give to them too.... I always "buy" the paper balloons, shoes, etc for $1 when i'm asked at grocery checkout. Also have "purchased" a $1 toy at dollar stores for military kids even tho I am not real sure that's where they go. Oh well, I did right, they must answer for it if they don't.

I send money to the local homeless shelter to provide holiday dinners.

Otherwise I've been keeping my dollars close to home the past two years, helping my daughter get on her feet and feeding her and her two boys once a week.
