So irritated with the double posting.   I wrote this thread, posted and it gave me some big long computer code ending with Forum not created.   So I created it again.   And it’s on here twice.   Of course it is.

 Christmas Eve: homemade spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread and salads

Christmas Night: turkey and pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes/gravy, dressing, broccoli casserole, rolls and pumpkin pie or cherry cheesecake for dessert.  My DD wants to make a regular cheesecake with a red velvet ribbon swirled through it, and then top it with cherries. She is Pinterest addicted and finds all sorts of recipes she wants us to do.

Tracy - I want to come to your house for supper on Christmas Eve....YUMMY!  Sorry I've been MIA.  I've been really busy at work and with the tech problems here, its really the last thing I want to deal with at the end of the day.

MIL is making steak and shrimp.  That's our tradition on DH's side.  Other than that I have no idea.  I'm guessing ham at my grandma's. 

Christmas is 2 weeks from today!!

Hey Susan I was wondering where you were!

Well Christmas Eve we are having a bunch of people over - between 19 - 23 -or traditions have changed over the years and this year I am leaning toward the following for Christmas Eve - shrimp cocktail, smoked salmon, cheese/dried meat platter, probably a vegetable tray with dip, stuffed breads (a local Italion bakery makes great ones - pepperoni, sausage, broccoli, a chicken parm so many decisions).  I was going to get some frozen apps from Trader Joe's but because of the amount of people I think I will just make stuffed shells - easy to make ahead of time and easy to keep warm.  

Christmas dinner is usually, turkey breast, ham and most of the same trimmings as Thanksgiving.  Cheesecakes for the "happy ending".

We always have turkey with dressing, mashed potatoes, peas, carrots, turnips, and creamed onions, with pies and butter tarts for dessert. One at our house for DH's family and one at my sister's the day after for my side of the family. Looking forward to both.

The normal buffet on Christmas Eve and left overs on Christmas day and boxing day.I just made 5 meter of sausage for Christmas.

And this is what on the table

Meat dishes:  Ham,  boiled sausages, fried cocktail weiners,  meatballs, ribs, cold cut sausages,  brawn, rolled brawn, liverpaté, pork broth and a local type of fried sausage.

Fishes dishes: Mustard pickled herring and warm smoked salmon

Veggies, Red coleslaw,  potatobake, beetroot salad

Other: 3 types of cheese, 3 types of bread and 3 types of mustard.

Dessert,  home made candy, gingerbreads and warm mulledwine.

Sounds great, Hanna.   I love sausages.   I tried warm mulled wine for the first time this fall.   I am not a big wine drinker, really don't like any reds, but it was good.

You can make mulled  currant cordial.

1 stick of cinnamon
12 hela cloves
2 inches fresh ginger
5 cardemom pods
the peel of 1  orange or a seville orange

1 cup sugar 

7 of  black currant cordial,  if you make it with fruit syrup, make stronger then normal and  ½ cup sugar instead.

Mix everything in a pot and simmer for 15 min. Leave for a day in the fridge and then when you serve, strain the spices and throw them away, reheat the cordial and drink in expresso cups.

I live in the Czech Republic and here we have our Christmas dinner on Dec, 24th. We start with soup. Here the customs are different. Some families have fish soup, others pea soup and there can be some other kind of soup as well. In our family we have pea soup with croutons. Then fried fish in breadcrumbs with cold potato and vegetable mayonnaise salad; each family has got their own "best" recipe for it. As a dessert we have many kinds of tiny bisquits made mainly with nuts, cocoa, chocolate, dried fruit and so on. You can find thousands of recipes for them. There is also fruit and nuts on the table. We drink famous Czech beer and wine, mineral water, juices and maybe some slivowitz. Marry Christmas to all of you!

A new face! How exciting. Thanks for stopping in. Soups sound great.   I have never had a fish soup.   Are they thick, like a chowder?
