Yoga?

Does anyone do or have ever done yoga?  It's basically just stretching, right?  I was thinking of learning a few basic poses and wasn't sure if anyone had any tips or tricks, do's or don'ts.  Thanks.

I think I'd like it.   I love the way my body feels after doing deep stretches.

Take a beginner's class and you will be fine. Just listen to your body, if it hurts stop. Hope you don't fall asleep like I almost did more than once.

I don't think.  It should be more relaxing, shouldn't it?

Why does my back hurt? I too have scoliosis and I've worn a 20 pound belt around my waist for the past 18 years. I'm subtracting time for maternity time. I took the belt off around 8 weeks with both pregnancies. I've been a cop for 19 years now.

Why is it so painful?

I have scoliosis and terrible posture.  My mom's been trying to get me to stand up straight for years!  lol  My back normally hurts.  And of course, sometimes at night I curl up in a little ball and my back screams at me in the morning.  I just want to stretch my muscles some.  I don't want more pain.

I had a pre-natal VHS tape called Yoga Mama that I used when I was pregnant.   I enjoyed it.   But I don't think it is close to a real class.   I still want to try a class.

I have also done a lot of the yoga poses on the Wii Fit.   I love them.   My back is so bad it hurts almost all the time.   I found that a few of the yoga poses that stretch your back really help me.   I need to do that more often.   Since I got tendonitis from the weights doing Jillian Michaels in the mornings, I have been using the Wii Fit.   I had forgotten how much good stuff is on there.

Like most classes I think it all depends upon the insturctor.  The class I took I was I think the newest one in there.  Most YOGA classes have die hard fans attending them and they know what they are doing.  Any way our instructor was nice enough but intense.  All the clear mind and breath deep stuff - sorry hard to clear my mind of the pain I am in trying to get into the form she is showing us.  I stuck it out for the classes I had signed up for.  I believe it was 6 weeks.  I went with a friend and she wanted to sign up for the next 6 weeks.  I let her go by herself.

I've thought taking some classes but never have. I see the typical pictures in my mind of trying to balance while standing on one leg with my hands raised in the air palms together over my head and I think I'd end up falling off my little mat! LOL
