I know this might sound crazy but since I'm working on changing my diet (trying to lose a lot of weight and get healthier) I wondered if there were any type foods that have extra benefits like helping with pain. I would love to hear any ideas.

Hi Tdalton!  Speaking from a personal perspective, I haven't found any particular food that eases pain.  There have been many articles written about the "nightshade" family and arthritis.  The nightshade family includes tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, sweet and hot peppers and a few others. There have been claims that nightshades can make arthritis pain worse. The effect of foods on arthritis vary greatly from person to person. It is an individual decision whether or not to avoid nightshade vegetables.  Personally, I have not found any correlation between arthritis pain and the nightshades (I even grow my own tomatoes in the summer and eat lots of them!)

As to foods that help with pain, I did find a site that lists 7 foods that might help with arthritis pain.  Here's the link:  http://www.joybauer.com/photo-gallery/best-foods-for-arthritis.aspx.  I have to say again that everyone's  body and metabolism is different with respect to different foods and ingredients.  You might want to try some of the things listed in this site and see if any help with the pain and inflammation.

I also found this site that gives you more choices: http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/fighting-arthritic-pain-with-the-right-foods.html

Good luck!
