Knee pain

I am a 32 yr old female with knee pain. I have aurthritis in wrist, fingers, ankle, and knees already. This pain got really bad when my knee gave out and I fell down stairs. I had mri and xrays done and been seeing ortho some early Aug 2013. They first tried therapy thinking I needed to strengthen the muscles to carry my weight. Yes I am Fat, but due some of my meds it is really hard to loose weight and keep it off. I am trying though. Its hard to do excersise now since the knee has gotten so bad, and swimming is the only thing I can due that doesn't kill me (but it is winter now and way to cold for that). I have had injections, electro stimulation, ultra sound therapy, and even surgery. I had surgery on Nov 15, they repair cartlidge, trimmed fat pad, scrapped bone, and repaired maniscus. he told me my knee cap was ridged and causing damage thats why he shaved down some bone. It has ached ever since the surgery but I finished 4 wks therapy to be able to use weight machines at gym. I am still doing the daily stretches and my last therapy was showing me what weights and machines to use. It hurt a little bit when I was doing those therapy items but I powered through it cause they said it would be little rough first few times. Little did I know it would totally put me down. I cannot bend my knee at all without it locking in place. I have to gradually straighten it and massage as I go. there have been several times it has taken 20 plus minites to get it straight. I really do not want a knee replacement but I am afraid thats what the dr is going to tell me in Feb. I am taking Mobic, Loratab, and had injection 2 days before last therapy. I still use ice for swelling. I just need to know if there is anything else I can try before I go back in Feb

Oh yikes that sounds bad. I am glad to hear you are under a doctor's care for this. Hopefully you will find something to relieve the pain.

Actually, I think you are doing everything you can at present. I can't think of anything else you could try. I also have painful knees as well as back, neck and shoulder pain. (And I'm overweight, as well.) Please keep in touch with us here and let us know how you're doing and how the ortho appoinment goes for Feb.

Hi,

I have no advice on the mes, as I'm newly diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the knees. Do you have pain in your legs too, like in the tendons and muscles above and below your knee? I can't seem to get that pain under control. Its so miserable. Are you working right now? I'm out on disability but I need to get back to work soon, how ever the muscle pain is stopping me. I walk with a limp and have trouble walking at times. I wanted to hear about other's experiences with it. What kind of doctor are you seeing?

Hugs!

Nicole
