Has anyone here successfully controlled their diabetes by losing weight? How did you do it??

Hi Mary. Losing weight often helps your body use glucose more efficiently. The combination of eating fewer calories, more physical activity and weight loss typically does help people manage diabetes. Be sure to talk wtih your doctor about the best changes for you to make. ~Lynn @Glucerna

Hi There! Yes, weight loss helps. I was able to keep my diabetes under control with weight loss for 6 years before I needed to go on medication. Your doctor needs to help you with this. It is called medical nutritional therapy. S/he needs to refer you to a dietitian who specializes in diabetics for counseling and meal planning. Anymore there isn't a lot that diabetics absolutely can't eat but rather it is when you eat it and the portion sizes. Most insurances will cover this education because it is a lot cheaper than caring for the complications of diabetes.

Please post anymore questions that you have here and I will try and help you with them.
