My husband was finally dignosed with type 2 diabetes. They gave him some information about losing weight and foods to avoid. I thought it was going to be more complicated to treat but this seems doable. We are very glad to know he doesn't need shots or pills.

Kay, Please tell us more! Diabetes for many people is a very managable disease. I would encourage your husband to lose as much of the weight that he can now because over time it becomes more difficult. Hopefully he can start exercising also. The latest research says that a 15 minute walk after eating is more effective in controlling the BS than one 45 minute bout of exercise. Can you go for a walk with him to encourage him? Ultimately it is his disease and he needs to control it but you are an important part of the care team. I can understand how difficult men can be about managing their disease. I thought my smart husband was going to drive me crazy and then I was diagnosed diabetic and I had to take care of myself. Guess what, he could do just fine without me!!

They now say the best way to avoid diabetes is to walk for 30 minutes after meals. I 'get' that since walking after meals for diabetics can lower their glucose. Like Mary Frances said, maybe ask him to walk with YOU after supper. Wink It will do you both good and can make for a great time to just relax and enjoy. If you have any questions, please ask! We will help if we can!
