Medical visits done for a while I hope!

Had the last of my yearly medical visits.  Dr was satisfied with my numbers except my trigylcerides  were up and the good cholesterol was down a point or two. I  blame that on the lack of exercise as I pretty much stayed in the house most of the winter.    Trying to get back into exercising and its sort of ebbing and flowing a bit.

Had my mammo, and  no problems there.

Last Friday was the eye doctor visit, and had to see a different doctor. He says there is absolutely no evidence of any diabetic effect on my eyes. So that was good. BUT he did say he sees evidence of early cataracts and thankfully they do not deal with them like they used to.  I remember in the past older family memembers and others talking about the doctors not doing the surgery until the eyes were "ripe" or something like that. BUT that basically meant not until you could barely see.  He said to come back and see him when I get to the  point that driving at night becomes hard to do. My eyes are a bit worse, and he says since my eyes are so bad that does increase the risk of the surgery(he says being diabetic would not be a problem at all). He also said they probably would not be able to totally correct my vision but they could bring it much closer to normal than what it is now. IT would be great to not have to be careful exactly where I put glasses at night. also be great not to have to worry about where to put the glasses if I go in a pool.  Sadly I did find this more upsetting I think than even being diagnosed diabetic a decade ago!

It sounds as if you did have a good report. The only thing 'wrong' is something that can be taken care of, and that is a good thing! Hang in there and get back on that excercise! Wink

Nancy,

All in all you had a good medical report. If and when you get back into exercising (nagging, aren't I!) your good cholesterol will go up. That is the only way we have of increasing the good cholesterol. Sounds like you have a while to go before the cataract needs removal and so you can schedule it on your schedule as it is not an emergency.

I did walk 2 nites ago, and since it was close to getting dark I ended up pushing to walk faster so I did get in 4 times around the block.  Yesterday my thighs were hurting so did not go. Today hopefully I can get out between predicted rains.  It appears its gonna rain everyday till next Thursday.

1 Question.  now that I will be 65 in July  do I want to try to get my A1C lower than 5.7  or 5.6  The last time it was 5.6 and this time it was 5.7.    I know I never got it below 5.6  so that is the best I have gotten.  But now with the cataract issue I want to make sure that I am not dealing with higher levels when I have to have that surgery.  Think its maybe a carryover when when I was a kid.  Got glasses in 2nd grade, and this is stressing me a lot more than even getting diagnosed with diabetes.

By the way, I wish the powers that be here would dump the profanity filter.   I have attempted to post so many times.  Especially those times I dare to talk about getting another dog!     Who knows, maybe it is triggered when I sign my posts.  It gets really really irritating.

Gonna test here.
