As diabetics this is a really important test telling you and your doctro what your blood sugar has been running for the previous two to three months. The national goal is an A1C under 7 but if yu are older than 65 the goal is higher now because of the risk of hypoglycemia, which can be deadly in the elderly.

Mine was 6.2 and I am one happy camper. I was started on Victoza last July and it has done a really nice job on my blood sugar and my weight. Before I started the Victoza my A1C was 7.6 and I wasn't happy about this. I was also taking 36 untis of insulina nd still my blood sugar wasn't where it was supposed to be. I am now taking 25 units and may need to decrease it a little bit more.

So please tell me what you reading was and don't accept the answer of "it's okay" from your doctor's office! Know your numbers so you know what you are dealing with.

Yipppeee I can finally log in.  Even though it says it doesn't recognize me if I hit refresh enough times it allows me in.  Maryfrances that is great to hear about your A1C.   I had my first A1C in 4 years a few weeks and it was 6.01 so there is no need for me to take any medication I can keep controlling my sugar with diet and exercise.  Quick question for you guys out there what does your A1C have to be in the states before they recommend medication.  Numbers are always so different between the two places lol.  Have a great week everyone

Shannon,

Glad to see you are back! And doing well, too. Here we say 4-6 is non-diabetic and above 6 or 6.5 is diagnostic for diabetes. Luckily the A1C numbers are the same the world over! That certainly makes it nice for us CL's and members of this board!
