So far, he's just keeping a lot of his pain and anger under wraps. He's a little like me in that regard; he keeps things close to the vest. I made him promise me he wouldn't go off the deep end and do anything crazy, since I've already had my husband do that this year. I explained I could only handle one depressed/crazy/suicidal person per calendar year, and it wasn't his year. He laughed at that one, but it's unfortunately true! He's going to school and doing well, so that's as good as it's going to get right now, I'm afraid.

Aww, I'm so sorry that you both are going through this. Is there any kind of counseling available at his school that might help?How are you adapting to having a teenager to take care of?(I think I might have more problems with the dog than the teen-lol I am terrified of dogs)

Sounds like the two of you have a good relationship. That will really help. {{hugs}}

Hahaha, yeah, the dog is driving me nuts! She's huge, over 100lbs, smells horrible, sheds like crazy, and is howling the entire time he's at school! I have already talked to the school and he's going to see the councilor there once a week, and do track as a way to make him tired so he can sleep. I'm also going through the slow and expensive process of getting court ordered custody so I can add him to my insurance. As for one more teenager, it's not too bad, since I love kids in general, and this one in particular. I have made it a point to stay close to my nieces and nephews, so it's not too awkward or anything, just a bit of an adjustment. My mother had dementia and unfortunately encouraged a wariness and general distrust in people in my nephew, so it's going to take a while for him to feel like I'm not going to abandon him, too. The custody process is one thing I'm doing to show him that he's not going anywhere, and that I really do care. I also got in touch with his father and his family, who've been writing him for a long while now, but never got a response, due in large part to my mother. I figure the more people he has on his side, the better. Luckily, they are supportive of him living here, as I figured they would be; I know them enough to know they love him, and have no money to do anything other than call and write. All I can say is, wish me luck! WIth these 3 boys, I think I'll need it. One good thing: if anyone messes with me, they are all huge and very protective of me. :-)

Hi, just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about your mother. Glad that you and your nephew were able to be with her and honor her end-of-life wishes. What a wonderful gift for her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I've been away from the boards for about a year now and just recently started makeing an appearance once again, so don't know if you remember me or not.
