What was your reaction when you were diagnosed with Fibromyalgia? Did you start to research it or were you already pretty familiar?

At the time, all I knew was that fibromyalgia was something "crazy" people had, so I was pretty upset and determined NOT to have it.  After researching it a lot, I realized that that was the perception and not the reality.  Sadly, fibro is something that has only recently been accepted as a real problem, and not by everyone, so being diagnosed with a chronic illness that is perceived as "in my head" was not welcome, for sure.  Now, I am an advocate and an educator to anyone who will listen, because I've had to struggle to find a treatment plan that works and fight the idea that my physical pain and fatigue are not real.

I was already pretty sure I had Fibro after seeing multiple doctors and having tons of tests done. It was an arthritis specialist that finally gave me the diagnoses. I will never forget it. He said, "You have Fibromyalgia and there is no cure for it and we still don't know what causes it. I don't treat it. Good Luck..."
