What type things have you tried for pain management besides drugs (over the counter or prescription)? Have you had any success?

I've tried Reiki and yoga. Yoga helped a lot with period pain and very stiff and painful shoulders. Reiki helps a lot with period pain.

Guided imagery also helped a lot where pain was concerned.

I typically use ibuprofen for pain management, though occasionally if the pain is particularly bad (my pain is usually caused by muscle spasms) I use a prescription muscle relaxer.

Interesting. I've tried guided imagery for stress but never for pain. I'll have to keep that in mind. Thankfully I'm not one that has any kind of chronic pain.

Karla, I never realized this for guided imagery as I use it for other things (anxiety/stress/PTSD.) One day, though, I had listening to a guided imagery for about 20 minutes in the taxi on the way to a waxing appointment.. and lo and behold, I barely felt the bikini wax. Normally it's a good 7,5 pain level. On that day it was a 2.

Please do not listen to a guided imagery when you are driving as it does put you in another state of mind.

Heated pads, massage therapy --- they work but only short term.

Anything that takes my mind off how I'm feeling.

It is more a case of what haven't I tried. So far I have tried Guided meditations ,Mindful meditations , massage, aromatheraphy, reflexology, Reiki, burning various oils and accupressure.

Promise, have you found that any of those work better for you than others? Is there one that you would recommend over another?
