What is the strangest remedy for a health problem that you tried and it worked? How did you hear about it?

Breast milk for pink-eye. I had read about it in several places and then when my little one ended up with pink eye, I tried it. It worked perfectly!

I once had a terrible cold, so terrible I was bedridden and somewhat delirious. I had no health insurance and I knew a doctor would do more than give me cold medicine anyway (which hadn't worked by the way) so I started searching the internet for unusual remedies. I found an article that described how many people rid themselves of colds much faster by putting hydrogen peroxide in their ears. The logic was that it is assumed that we catch colds in our noses and throats, when in fact we catch them in our ears. Plus our bodies create the compounds that make up hydrogen peroxide anyway so adding more would just give our immune system an extra boost to fight cold germs.

To my delirious self that made sense so I did it. The experience was kind of like putting alkeseltzer in my ears. It didn't hurt, but just fizzed and felt cold. Almost immediately my head felt noticeably less cloudy and I was breathing a little better. When I woke up the next morning my cold was gone. Thinking this was a fluke I tried this remedy with my next few colds and every time it did the trick.

With that first cold I did have a very sore throat and that was gone to. I haven't tried it on just a sore throat, but it might work. I should also say that the article made it clear that if you suspect you have an ear infection, are prone to ear infections, or your ears just hurt then do not try this remedy. It didn't say why, but my first thought was maybe open sores in your ears? I dunno since I've never had an ear infection.

Well darn... her ears are popping too, so I guess I'd better not try it on my DD.

I've heard from a lot of people how well this works. I'm glad you found relief. Now that I have a head cold, I think I'm going to have to run and buy some Vick's.

If the kids can swallow pills you can get some of those veggie capsules and put the vinegar in there. Of course that would mean swallowing several pills since you need a tablespoon, but maybe not. Sometimes kids only need a smaller dose of a remedy for it to work.
