What do you know about acupuncture? Have you ever tried it? Do you know anyone who has? Have you ever thought about trying it? Have you ever asked a health care professional about it?

Hi Karla,

I've used it for vertigo. I had gone to see an ENT thinking that the vertigo was probably caused by a problem with the ear (as had happened previously) but she couldn't find anything. The vertigo was pretty bad, and it was pretty scary, too. A couple of times I thought that I would pass out in the street or in the cab. One night I thought that I was going to die.

A friend of mine took me to her acupuncturist. Three sessions was all it took... and it also helped with my migraines, too.

Oh wow Poppy-that is great. I'd love to hear all about the actual procedure. All I know about it is what I've seen on TV and know that it can't possibly be an accurate account. lol

Well, he was. Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor from Taiwan, I think, who split his time between Jakarta and Taiwan. He took my pulse, asked questions, etc, and then he stuck needles in me. He was quite gentle. The TCM doctor who treated my SIL was kind of rough to the point that my SIL didn't want to continue. I don't remember feeling pain or even a jab. Acupuncture needle are very fine and he was very good.

During my last session a man who had had a stroke came in, and he really needed the bed I was lying on, so I went out, needles and all, and sat in the waiting area. I think it kind of freaked some people out, but I wasn't feeling a thing LOL!

I've never tried it or really thought much about having it done and I've never asked a doctor about it. I do know that it is used for relief of many different conditions.

I know that it involves the insertion of tiny needles along the meridians of the body to open the body's chi.

When I was teaching in Houston, one of our faculty, who was an MD who practiced acupuncture, demonstrated it to us. That is about it... I have never had it done to me and I know no-one who has had it done to them.

I wonder if insurance pays for acupuncture. I know my insurance recently started paying for chiropractic.
