Car accident

Hi, I am 28 and was involved in a car accident with a semi truck that gave me a tibial plateau fracture and crushed my right ankle. I went to the ER and they took x-rays and everything. My WBC count was elevated to 28 and they said it was normal but I just wanted to ask, it seems really high but I guess when your traumatized and hurt with broken bones it can get elevated.

Hello, and welcome to the Women's Health board. I'm so sorry to hear about your accident! I hope you are getting all the rest and care you need and are healing well.

As I understand it, an elevated white blood cell count isn't unusual in cases of physical or emotional trauma, and a bad car accident causes trauma of both types. I don't think you have cause for alarm, but to put your mind at ease, I would suggest mentioning it to your doctor during a followup visit. All the best in your recovery!

Hope you are doing fine, accidents can be very traumatic.

I still simetimes find it hard.

If you are concerned I would mention it to your doctor and it will help to put your mind at rest.

Make you feel more at ease.

It's probably ONLY a temporary thing after the physical and emotional trauma but check with him/her.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.
